James Franco talks about Rob and Breaking Dawn in interview with Playboy

Playboy: Participating in the Venice Biennale is by invitation only and a big deal. What are the specifics of your project?
James FRANCO: It’s a huge project I’m incredibly honored and proud to be presenting. It’s based on Rebel Without a Cause, and some of the best contemporary artists alive—Paul McCarthy, Douglas Gordon, Ed Ruscha, Aaron Young, Damon McCarthy and Harmony Korine—worked on different sections. I wanted Robert Pattinson to be in the project, but when Harmony (Rebel's director) contacted him and told him the concept, Rob said, “I don’t get the point,” so that was that.

PLAYBOY: Is it true you wanted to do a Twilight movie?
FRANCO: I had my agent tell [director] Bill Condon that I’d be happy to do anything in Breaking Dawn, but that was because it was supposed to be part of a multimedia project at Yale. I was working with a Yale undergraduate who had written an autobiographical play about putting on a theatrical production of Twilight in which I was a character. So I was interested in Twilight because I was going to be part of that play. I thought what a great connection it would be if I were also involved with the real Twilight.

Well Rob, I also don't see the point of that awful book Cosmopolis being adapted into a movie. Way to turn down a great project with a great actor. Idiot.

A "great project?" Errr, considering this is the project James is talking about: http://tinyurl.com/3dtlzne I don't get it either & glad Rob passed on it. James may be a good actor but there's no need to act like a patronizing brat who gets pissy when people don't do what he wants them to do and things don't go his way. Rob has every right to decline working on a project he doesn't connect with. Please take your negative shit to a James fansite @sonofawhore

I personally wish Rob had taken the challenge, if for nothing else to challenge himself. I am hoping Cosmopolis will stretch his acting skills further than in previous movies. He is an ok actor, but he has done nothing that you could say "Wow", only to Rob Pattinson fans. I want for him to break forth through those bounds of just Rob Pattinson fans and wow whole other factions of the moviegoing audience. I don't know if it is because he is shy or wants to stay in his comfort zone, but I really want to see him as I have never seem him before. As I have said in the past he has the potential I hope he lives up to it. I admire his self-depreication and humbleness, I want to see him get great reviews not ho-hum reviews, but great and see a mixture of the moviegoing audience admire him for his acting skills.

Only time will tell, but he still has that face and those hands, that just make you weak in the knees.

@Calihi27..ITA with you..way to go about this @sonofawhore..with a username like that I'm not surprised about the choice of words and the very negative tone of comments...Yeah! Go to J.Franco's fansite you are very disrespectful..I don't know JF as an actor ,according to some of my mates he is a good one..but I'm glad Rob passed on that and agreed to star in Cosmopolis it was a smart choice (IMO)..I don't think Rob needs JF more than JF needs Rob..we all know who the fans would be prepared to queue up or camp out over night to see or get a glimpse off..it's obvious who I will be queueing up:)..i can see some of the favs are here..*Waves* to Iluvthemovies,Ja,and Yaelfica & Twilola:)

James has always wanted to be in some kind of project with Rob! He knows Robs star just keeps rising & he wants to hang on to the tail of it. He wanted to be in Twilight period & not just Breaking Dawn. Who wouldnt as an actor wouldnt want to be in them. Twilight is huge & James is pathetic! He needs to get over his obsession with Rob!

@Iluvthemovies Rob is a great actor not an 'ok' actor, that's really wrong to say. He has stretched his acting skills a lot already and he has done things that have made not only his fans but other people say Wow,too. With Remember me and Water for Elephants he totally blew a lot of people away and he did an amazing job. I don't think he's staying in a 'comfort zone' because every movie of his is different and he definitely wasn't staying in a 'comfort zone' when he chose to be in Cosmopolis. He's a great actor already and he's really talented. He doesn't need to do all types of movies so everyone thinks he's great, it's his decision what type of movies he chooses to do and he's really chosen his roles perfectly. He has already broken through those 'bounds' of just his fans and he has impressed another people, even Oscar winners like Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. He has already received great reviews and I think it was really smart of Rob to not do Franco's project because Franco just wants to enjoy of Rob's fame and Rob wouldn't be challenging himself with that project because that project doesn't make any sense. Rob is already a great actor and I couldn't be more proud of him and I know his career will grow bigger and bigger because he's talented and he knows what roles to choose and because he's not interested in working on all types of movies just so people like him, he's interested in working on things he feels passionate about. He's an amazing actor and talented in more ways than one (he has proved that many times, one of those times was when he was one of the executive producers of Remember me) @sonofawhore Cosmopolis is not awful, Franco's project is awful! You're the idiot for criticizing a great actor like Rob.
