New Details About 'The Lost City of Z' Filming Schedule - Tom Holland Joins The Cast

Tom Holland // Charlie Hunnam and Rob in Belfast with a fan

Tom Holland, the young actor who was recently cast as the new Spider-Man, has signed on to join Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller in James Gray’s “Lost City of Z,” which just started filming in Belfast.

“Lost City of Z” follows Percy Fawcett, a conscripted soldier and born explorer who disappeared in the 1920s while searching for a mythical city in the Amazon jungles of Brazil that he believed he discovered on a prior expedition.

Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are producing via Plan B Entertainment along with Anthony Katagas and Dale Johnson.
MICA Entertainment is financing the film, which is based on David Grann’s bestselling book.

MadRiver Pictures’ Marc Butan is executive producing, as are MICA Entertainment’s Julie B. May and Glenn Murray. After five weeks in Belfast, production will continue in Colombia throughout September and October.

Sierra/Affinity is representing international sales of the title, with CAA overseeing domestic rights to the film.

I'm not familiar with Holland, but I'm always glad to get news about his work Sienna Miller is good, and Charlie Hunnam is an excellent actor so I'm really excited for this one.

They were almost right on schedule. It was first reported that filming would begin by 8/17 so they were just a couple of days off. Going to be a long filming but Rob has been through long shoots before with BDI and II. Can't wait to see some set pictures of the cast.

Collider has a nice assessment of Rob's career strategy in their coverage of Holland's casting:

"As for Holland, it would seem that his ambition, not unlike co-star Pattinson, is to work with major, important directors as often as he appears in financially lucrative franchises such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Pattinson did quite well for himself by starring in the largely excruciating Twilight films, and has since partnered with the master, David Cronenberg, on two separate occasions (Cosmopolis, Maps to the Stars), David Michôd on The Rover, and Werner Herzog on the upcoming Queen of the Desert, as well as lining up projects with Anton Corbijn, Harmony Korine, and the Safdie Brothers."

That's the way the professionals view Rob's career. They understand that he's choosing to work with respected directors and has the Twi franchise box office to his credit already. It's all good.

Man, can't believe they are doing another Spiderman and without Andrew Garfield, that's sad. This movie sounds interesting, like the Rover but instead of a car, explorers on boats and trekking. I think Rob is a genius trying to fill his movie collection with great directors and harnessing his acting ability to be versatile and becoming the best. Even if most critics still see the guy that played Edward Cullen, it's good that he will continue to benefit with all that money from Twilight Saga and put it to good use.

Even Rob's small indie movies net him paychecks of at the least between 2 and 5 million dollars, and Stephanie Ritz is a sharp negotiator she gets him the best deals possible and yes, his Twilight pay is enough money that if he wanted to he could retire and move to Tahiti, or buy an Island of his own, you'd be surprised how little it costs to purchase an Island in the South Pacific.

This film just looks better and better! I hope filming goes well and they get a good distribution deal. I'm looking forward to this.

TLCOZ already has distribution through Paramount, according to its page on IMDb, which was updated 7 days ago.

Between Cosmopolis and The Rover, Rob has effectively buried Edward as far as the critics are concerned. Those films both received a majority of good reviews, and Rob blew away the critics with his performance as Rey. So much so that he received 4 Best Supporting Actor nominations earlier this year. No critic looks at him and sees "Edward" now. That's history.

Rob is often used as an example of an actor coming out of a franchise who made smart career choices, as Collider did today.

I think the Rover nipped it in the bud with the critics no longer seeing Rob as Edward in TWilight. That role stopped any comparison from Twilight. Rob is a very good actor and a versatile one also and the critics are seeing that. He makes enough money off his indies to not even touch his Twilight money. I am sure he invested that money wisely.

What I love about Rob and respect him so much for it is that he challenges himself in every single one of his movies. Every role he takes is portrayed brilliantly. Love that he doesn't choose easy peasy safe roles. Too bad if some don't like his movies he at least is making interesting, challenging, creative, intelligent choices that are making people listen. Good for Rob for doing as he pleases.

@Marylin
Rob has made the right career choices and has the talent that matches his charisma, its great to see people beginning to view him differently

Does anyone know how big a part Rob has in the movie & the character he will play? I read that Charlie & Sienna are now in Ireland filming & wondered about Rob, especially if he plays the son of Charlie & Sienna' characters?

Unknown said...

Ok, going to answer my own question - just read that Rob plays Henry Costin. Charlie is Percy Fawcett & Sienna is his wife. It might be safe to assume Tom Holland will be their son?

Unknown said...

I read that Holland is one of the son's and that was how it was posted as one of the son's. I think Rob is a family friend just on the expedition. I haven't read the book so anyone that has, I am sure could tell us. I don't know Tom Holland or if I have ever seen a picture with him in it.

Again, from reading the book...Henry Costin does not accompany them on the final expedition into S America...Percy Fawcett and his son disappear on this final expedition....so Rob's part could be shot in Belfast and/or London as helping Fawcett put together the last expedition....if they don't follow the book then they will blend expeditions and Henry Costin will accompany them

Dearest Pattinson .., how are you ?? And where are you now ..?? Missing you most .. Love you ..
Please take care ..

Rob has a very big part in TLCOZ. He meets Fawcett in London and together they go on two expeditions together. That is the main focus of the film, the action/adventure in the jungle. Rob will be the character that the audience can identify with, as he struggles to escape death-defying stunts in the jungle.

Sienna has a very small part, just a couple of scenes in London to establish Fawcett as a family man. That's why Rob is not needed much in Belfast right now. He went up there for costume fittings, etc. Most of his filming will be in Colombia.

Tom Holland will play Fawcett's grown son, who goes on the final expedition, but that only takes up a very small part of the film, at the end. They don't focus on that last expedition.
