Rob's been away from talking to the public for awhile. Usually, he is not so nervous but that makes him more appealing and cute. You just want to hug him. He has come a long way since that little Barnes theater and I am so proud of him and his movies. Keep up the good work Rob.
Rob needs to take a class in speech. I think it will take him a long way as far as speech making is concerned. I admire so many things that he has done in his life, but this is far the least favorite. I want to shake him and say "get in front of a mirror and practice". Anyway, I am happy he presented an award to Uma, that was really nice.
Awkward and cute? Let's be realistic. He and Kristen both need to take speech lessons. they should minimise their mannerisms. Kristen, in her earlier interviews, could not even construct a complete sentence, without introducing a new one. It really pains me to watch them make speeches in front of the public; they tend to be better on a one-to-one basis.
By the way, am very pleased to see them reconciled. Right now, their love for each other won over terrible odds, and if I were a man I would do the same thing, thus I admire Rob for it. Kristen has been dealt a big lesson in life. Hope their love last forever and ever (I am romantic at heart), and that they will use fortitudeness in dealing with problems, as there will always be problems in a relationship.
Why did they not give him the speech a head of time to learn it? Or just let him do his own speech? Was he a last minute replacement? Because when I read this it was funny. And the pics were great too. Award shows are always so stuffy!
Well said Laarni on everything you mentioned. That is what separates us from 4 legged beasts, we have the ability to forgive and move forward.
@alwiega, I know many find the speech funny. I am still unable to look at him giving it because listening to it makes me personally cringe. I have seen many speeches that are very amusing and are not stuffy. It should be a speech that is coming from his heart not the teleprompter. It makes him look so awkward and not in a good way. There will be differing opinions, but I would love to hear from people that are not Rob fans to get their take on it, because lets face it we have a bias. However, I can honestly say this is something he needs to improve on. I did not think it was that funny, and the audience you could tell were barely laughing at some of the things he was saying, so I would like him to start taking this more seriously, because he does have a good sense of humor, but when he is in front of a crowd he almost seizes up and it does not cross over well. This is just my opinion. I know my opinion is probably in the minority especially on a Rob site, but I want this guy to succeed in everything he does, and hopefully one day he will master this, just like he is mastering other things in his life. Brits have the best senses of humor and Rob has it too, you see it when it is one on one, but when he is in front of a crowd, he loses it. He needs to take that one on one persona and transfer it to the podium. You can do it Rob, I know you can. The End.
Enjoyed your comment @iluvthemovies. But I think, we who love him, are more critical sometimes as well.
alweiga, you got that right. thanks for the understanding, and you know if we are on this site it is because of that man, that wonderful hilariously awkward man.
Sweet, adorable and awkward Rob. You can tell he hates these kinds formal of speechs and is very nervous. But who could blame him, he's been under so much stress for months and had his every step under a microscope.
Sweet Jesus. Love him, like him, adore him but don't be blind. His endurance in this business depends on you fans by pointing what his shortcomings were, so he can improve. Otherwise, without your constructive criticisms, how could we help him improve? Offers will dry out if his celebrity status is just based on his looks and "charm". Now that is the truth.
I don't know what y'all are going on about. I thought he was great. He was his usual adorkable self. That's one of the reasons why I love and support him, because he is adorkable and he's just himself. No BS.
If you wanted slick, you should look somewhere else. That's one of the things that always bothered me about Taylor (though I'm sure he's a nice guy), it's that he always came off (to me) as so slick, so smooth, so...rehearsed. That's not Rob. And for that, I am happy!!!
Well said rolange..more people will remember this speech instead of a speech written by a publist for him. People enjoy Rob being Rob and for that, he is well liked as being the real thing.
I thought he was great. And, so funny. What was written for him was rather cheesy. I preferred his candid remarks.
@Iluvthemovies you asked an outstander's viewpoint of Rob's speech. Here is my son's.
"Although I was unable to catch a few expressions and too lazy to find a few films of the praised Uma Thurman, I think this was quite a normal speech, twelve a dozen, a speech that one watches and forgets by the other day, which is absolutely normal – this is not the ground for making historical speeches. The style of the text to be told was trying to be normal showbiz-style, surely this was expected and the writer of it tried to live up to this expectation. The guy seemed to be nervous, but at first, I was unable to determine if he was acting all the way or he was really uptight for some reason. As I've seen (transcribed and translated) quite a number of interviews with him, I guess he was maybe truly nervous, and thus, he managed to be honest – which is a rare gift of speakers of similar events. I'm not a big follower of award-giving ceremonies, I've seen a total of maybe three Academy Award galas all my life, and that was more than enough of finicking talk and simply too much glamour. So against all the initial nervousness of the speaker and the spontaneous gestures, this was all right for me.
(I admit that I searched for some clues about this event, but all I found were a few articles that emphasized the least important pieces of information on the speech and on the event in general – so these didn't take me any steps closer to the background. Not if I've expected them to do so. It was just a try.)"
Thank you twmmy and please thank your son. As I said he was definitely nervous. As I said I am certain I am in the minority. I respect all opinions as long as they are not mean-spirited and you son did a very fine job of Rob's presentation. Thank you again.
The delivery of the speech was definitely not the best, I felt a little awkward, for him. He was rushing and not pausing. He was clearly nervous, and it showed.
I love you Rob, please relax when out in public. Just know that people love and want to hear from you.
