David Cronenberg talks about Cosmopolis and Rob to Vogue Italy

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Cronenberg has just finished shooting “Cosmopolis”, based on a novel by Don DeLillo and produced by Paulo Branco. It’s the first time I have a film competing in a festival, not yet in theaters, and another in post production. Whatever happens, I’ll start the editing this summer and next year you’ll see me again in Venice with “Cosmopolis” and Robert Pattinson, one of the most intense actors of this generation. He’ll blow your mind” (n.b. this interview was done before the Variety interview)

Wow, that's a nice compliment for Robert from one of cinema's most admired directors. Can't wait to see the movie.

I believe this role was more challenging for Rob and will show his range which will give him more credibility on his acting skills and lead to critical acclaim. It may not be a moneymaker, but at least it will show his skills and how he has improved, that is what I am hoping, because I know he has it in him, there are times in some of his movies where he really shows a range of emotions. I look forward to seeing Cosmopolis for both Rob and Cronenberg, I am a big admirer of both their works.

I hope to live to the day that people who casually bashed on Rob all his career, finally say he's not that bad. And "Cosmopolis" simply cannot be a failure, it's Cronenberg for god's sake, if it's not about money, he surely wouldn't choose an unskilled actor to play a lead role of his movie. This would harm his reputation as a film-maker and I just can't imagine him letting happen a situation like this. Also, the book was flawlessly written. If the script is fine, the dialogues will be just classic. And in the end, sorry for my poor english abilities.
