The official poster for Declan Donnellan's period drama Bel Ami is now online and can be viewed below.
Starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci, the film tells the story of George Duroy (Pattinson), a young journalist who rose from poverty to become one of the most successful men in Paris via the ruthless and calculating bedding of the city's most glamorous and influential women.
Bel Ami will premiere on VOD May 4, 2012 and open in theaters June 8, 2012.
"I'm afraid," confesses Robert Pattinson.
"Fear for an actor is always a good thing. He's also a fantastic, stunning, a great performer" responds indirectly David Cronenberg. "The script was crazy and difficult," the actor continues. "When I heard that the person was him, I had an intuition. I know that Robert is a grand leap" echoes the director.
Distance dialogue between the student and teacher, working for months on the set of their first project together, for the big screen adaptation of Cosmopolis, the surreal novel by Don DeLillo.
"In the year 2000, one day in April" Thus begins the odyssey, a long 24 hours, Eric Parker, 28 year-old multimillionaire who left home with his white limousine to go to the barber, remains locked in the traffic of Manhattan and is involved in a series of events that jeopardize his safety and his heritage ... It would be impossible to describe in a few lines the surreal journey the protagonist takes in a Manhattan without frontiers, a sort of virtual town where the limo floats like a social network and chat with other "traces" of humanity. Between tasers, pie in the face, the threat of someone wanting to kill him (both as a person and as a symbol of humanity no longer in the horizon) and the presence of his mysterious life companion, ethereal woman, guardian angel and his wife constantly betrayed.
After Crash, Cronenberg continues his exploration of the imaginary modern metropolitan, hallucinated and perverse, using a cast which also includes Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche and Mathieu Amalric
WHY YOU SHOULDN'T MISS IT: To observe the modern world through Cronenberg's look. And it could be Pattinson's professional 'redemption'.
Fortunately, despite the fear that is currently paralysing the film business, Cronenberg already has his nxt film in the can. Cosmopolis is an adaptation of Don DeLilo's novel about 24 hours in the life of a Manhattan multimillionaire. "I wrote the script in six days, because the book is so cinematic - the dialogue is incredible," Cronenberg says. "That was unusual for me - to write a script that quickly. But then it was waiting to go." The project was brought by him by veteran Portuguese producer, Paolo Branco. "He flew to Toronto," Cronenberg says, "He came with his son, and said, "My son says that you are the right director for this project."
The only issue was that Cronenberg was lined up to shoot A Dangerous Method. "But Paolo said, "I will wait for you." And he did securing the services of one Robert Pattinson in the meantime to play the leading role of Eric Packer, an asset manager who endures a surreal odyssey across New York when he sets out in his hi-tech limo to get his hair cut and finds the car stuck in a monumental traffic jam. "About 70% of it takes place in the back of a limo." confirms cronenberg who still had to deal with legions of R-Pattz fans during the shoot. "It sometimes was a little difficult. But Toronto is relatively repressed, i.e civilized."
It looks, to be frank, absolutely brilliant, and it's certainly dampened any doubts we might have had for the time being. And R-Patz? Damned if he doesn't look, in the very brief glimpses, right at home. Is it possible that all the doubters are about to be proved wrong with a terrific performance? The Playlist
Both David Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson are going into Cosmopolis with something to prove. Cronenberg is the revered auteur behind A History of Violence, The Fly and Videodrome, but his stuffy last film A Dangerous Method had some fans wondering if he'd lost his touch. And Pattinson, of course, is the pale and sparkly star of the Twilight franchise, movies that are engineered to suck all acting talent out of its stars-- if the kid can act, we haven't seen it yet. But 30 seconds from now you'll probably be able to put all those doubts to rest, because a short teaser for Cosmopolis is here, and it is fantastic.Cinema Blend
COSMOPOLIS - TEASER from Cosmopolis on Vimeo.
I have a weird relationship with fame. It's hard to live sometimes but I don't want to complain. People are nice with me and I think it comes with the way you handle things.
For example, I think it's totally different from what Rob (Pattinson) lives. He's a guy I like a lot - and no I do not have his cell phone number, I say this because it's always the first thing people ask me. He's a sex symbol. He's sexy and just need to do his brooding look for girls to fall. He has the perfect height to seduce girls, I'm the total opposite (laughs). He might be charming and cute, wild and sexy .. I do not have this kind of status, just look at pictures in the press. When we're put side by side, I look a little silly or I make faces whereas Rob always looks like a ladies' man. Therefore it doesn't help me when it comes to the ladies. Maybe because now that they grew up with me they consider me more like a big brother than a potential boyfriend.
