Remember Me is a romantic drama set in New York. What’s your experience of dating in big lonely cities?

It is difficult. People just end up meeting in bars. No one’s actually walking around and interacting. Online dating and all these things … they’re so fake, I’m sure people aren’t really writing proper profiles. It’s all such a game instead of it just being an organic process.

So, to the most important question …What was it like to kiss your Remember Me co-star Robert Pattinson?

I’m so curious about what people want me to say! Do people want a description of his mouth?

Well, is he a good kisser? Girls want to know and you’ve been there …

Yeah, been there, done that, and ticked that one off! He’s a great guy and everything was just very comfortable.

There were tabloid stories suggesting you and Pattinson were a couple. How did you deal with that?

I don’t know. You just ignore it or laugh about it. In a way, it amuses me, but it’s stupid. What are you going to do about it? I should read these things to find out what I’ve been doing!

What are your favourite romantic movies?

Without going into old films, because I could go on about those forever, I suppose something that was relevant to me when I was a teenager was [Baz Luhrmann’s] Romeo + Juliet. I think because it wasn’t fake. It dealt with tragedy. I’ve never been a fan of fluffy romantic movies, showing everyone happy and a perfect ending.

Remember Me deals with teenage angst. What were you like as a teen?

I was so enveloped in this whole new world of acting, it didn’t give me time to deal with that. I moved to LA when I was 18. I moved for a job, then just kept working, so I stayed out. And LA is just crazy. Especially coming from Melbourne, which is a pretty cool, down-to-earth, cosmopolitan city.

In LA you have endless people wanting to be your friend for the wrong reasons or people with ulterior motives. There are some great people there too, but you can’t be naïve.

I was lucky enough to attend the London premiere of Remember Me and meet Robert Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin earlier this month. Rob and Emilie chatted about their film, their roles in Twilight and Lost, and lots more. In Part One of this series of interviews Robert reveals how he felt during the fight scenes, how he views father figures, his role in Bel Ami and his relationship with his friends and family. Stay tuned for the next installments!

On playing brooding types, and whether he'd consider a lighter role: "I did the kind of lighter stuff before Twilight came out, and it just so happened that Twilight’s become so much about the archetype of the brooding person. I mean I never thought that Tyler was that brooding to be honest [laughs], and then I just get it at every single thing, people saying, "brood, brood, brood" — I hadn’t even heard the word before Twilight! I guess I like to play broken and troubled characters because it seems more interesting, especially because I’m not that broken and troubled myself."

On his new roles: "I’m doing something now [Bel Ami] that’s still quite dark, but the guy, his character isn’t so fractured, he’s just someone who’s incredibly focused and has a lot of confidence in himself, and nothing can shake his confidence. And then after that, I think there’s a kind of lighter thing as well. I don’t know, it’s not really that they’re angsty it’s just that joy seems to be more a universal emotion in script, it’s quite difficult — if you’re happy, you’re happy."

On how the character of Tyler developed: "The script changed so much over seven months and just had loads and loads of re-writes. I tried to tailor things to what I was interested in, like the relationship with the dad changed quite a lot because I thought one of the things when you’re a young guy one of your biggest fears is this irrational fear of walking in your dad’s footsteps and living the same life as him. I thought, even if your dad’s a good guy, you just want to assert your independence on everything and it causes these irrational sort of rages."

On his own fighting history: "I haven’t been in a fight in quite a long time, I think I’m too scared now. I think if I got in to a fight now, somebody would just kill me just for the sake of it [laughs]. I liked a lot of Tyler’s character, the rebelliousness and audaciousness of it, it’s like a fantasy of myself, like yeah, I’m the kind of guy who just randomly gets in fights. Yeah, I do it all the time. But, not really [laughs]."

On filming the fight scenes:
Producer Nick Osbourne: "I felt scared for you because the day you were doing the Chris Cooper fight, Chris was doing press-ups against the wall [laughs]."
Robert: "Yeah, he’s like unbelievably strong, he’s terrifying. And the fight I was having at the beginning I was doing it with this big stunt guy and I kept hitting this thing against the wall, next to his head. Then I was hitting him with what I thought was my full strength, I hit him in the head about four times and every time I hit him, I was like, 'I'm sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry'. And he’s like, 'It’s fine, it didn’t even hurt'. Yeah, that was kind of an ego deflater!"

On his friendship group: "It’s nice that I’ve grown up with the same friends since I was 12, I have a very close knit set of them... I grew up with a lot of people who a lot of other people regarded as heroes, and no one ever came to me for advice, no one ever came to me for protection, and so I don’t ever really think I’ve been looked at as a hero."

On who he considers his hero: "Outside of my family, I don’t really know. They’re great people and my parents are great parents, and they brought me up very well, I think. I don’t know, I think that’s about all the heroes I’ve had."

A rather exhausted looking Robert Pattinson talks to inthenews.co.uk about his new film Remember Me at its premier in London's Leicester Square.

Following what appeared to be an exhausting few hours on the red carpet, 'RPattz' and his most recent leading lady Emilie du Ravin made their way into the Odeon for the premier of their new film, and to talk to yet more journalists.

Glowing in a black lace cocktail dress with terrifyingly high heels, the tiny Emilie du Ravin looked at ease next to her co-star. Poor Pattinson however, who has become synonymous with the Twilight brand and now attracts hundreds of screaming young girls wherever he goes, looked drained after his hours spent talking to fans, signing autographs and 'biting them'. "I've been up since 6am" the heart-throb said wearily.
Nicholas Osborne, Remember Me's producer, said the Twilight star was on board from the start: "I'm very proud to say that Rob read the script in the parking lot of an In n Out Burger! And it was two months before Twilight came out and Rob signed on and stuck with the project and from there everything snowballed.

"Rob [who is also executive producer on the film] always wanted this project to be handled a certain way and so we consulted with him on the script and various things along the way."

Emilie (looking surprised) says to Robert: "I didn't even know you were [executive producer] when we were filming!"

So what makes someone like Robert Pattinson choose a little known film such as this? He says: "I read tonnes and tonnes of scripts over the summer after I'd done Twilight, I mean hundreds, and all of them seemed exactly the same, but this one, initially just because the way the dialogue was written, seemed more naturalistic than most things.

"And also Tyler as a character - it seems that most movies that have a young male protagonist as the lead, they either have to be a virgin to begin with and have to learn everything during the movie or they always have to go through the trials of the movie and end up a completely different person afterwards. But Tyler seemed like he came with a lot of baggage, and a developed character, and just ended up being developed in a slightly different way.

"You just never see that in films any more, especially not with young people, and that's what initially drew me."

Both Emilie and Robert have difficulties, with their fathers in the film, played by Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan, but how was it playing alongside such famed actors? Emilie says: "I was over the moon when I found out Chris was playing my dad, I've been a fan of his for years and think he's just incredible. He's a very intense person but very giving."

While Robert added: "When they first talked about the father role I never ever would have thought that it would have been someone like Pierce playing Charles.

"But I think he has this innate likeability about him, as soon as you meet him. And Charles on the page was someone who was very domineering and quite a strong character, and Pierce, just by being Pierce, changed the whole dynamic of it. It was great, as it made it a much more interesting relationship I think."

Robert's younger sister in the film, played by Ruby Jerins, has a very sweet relaitionship with his character Tyler. Robert easily sung the little actress's praises: "I always wanted a younger sibling and Ruby is one of the best actresses I have ever worked with.

"She is surprisingly articulate about her character, and when I first met her she seemed like a very, very normal kid, and then the more she talked about her character and her character's development, she could just improvise for hours and she was so comfortable working in front of the camera, and she was really amazing. It was really easy to do anything with her."

But how was it for him stepping out of the 'Twilight': "I never like anything [films], so it's very easy to decide what to do! Even movies I'm not in! I've never felt any pressure to do anything. Even when we were filming it I never thought about the box office or anything.

"It's not a Twilight movie, its an original screenplay. And it doesn't fit into any genre. They don't make movies like it anymore, and that's the only criteria I really have if there seems to be a gap in the market for something then I just try and do that."

While Emilie added: "It [the film] didn't read like script, it read like a letter, it was so honest and organic in that way.

"[Lost] has been a big part of my life and it's been a great ride. It's kind of bittersweet that it's ending.

"I'm glad it's ending on a high note, but obviously you miss certain things about projects."

The film, set in New York, deals with some tough issues, but Nicholas Osborne says they were all pleased with how it came out: "We had a lot of New Yorker's on set, and we had a lot of New Yorkers who had been affected by the events in the movie, and we had a number of cops in the movie who were affected by the events as well, and they all read the script and fell in love with it and felt it was an important story to tell.

"We always felt good about that, that they gave it their stamp of approval."

How about those love scenes?
"Everything between Robert and I in every way was just very natural and calm. We just had a very good comfort level. After we met, we sort of learned so much about each other as people and we just immediately kind of clicked."

Emilie de Ravin's role as Claire in the TV series "Lost" has lately caused fans to scratch their heads, but her turn starring opposite of Robert Pattinson in "Remember Me" has heads turning.

Namely, the pair share intensely intimate moments on the big screen, from their bold first kiss, to a (clothed) romp in the shower and beyond. When it came time to the film such physical chemistry, however, there were no moments or opportunities for Pattinson and de Ravin to "rehearse": they just headed right in.

"When we [screen] tested together, there was no scenes involving kissing and obviously we didn’t test with a sex scene," de Ravin laughed in her interview with HitFix. She mocked just how awkward such an audition process would become. “'We want to see another scene, so take off your clothes. We just want to see the chemistry, trust us, it’s O.K.'"

TeenHollywood: Okay, obvious question. How did you like working with "the heartthrob"?

Emilie (laughs): Is that his new name? It was great, we get along really well, had a really fun time, also just sort of shared the same amount of passion for this film and everything felt very natural and unforced. On set, we spend a lot of time beforehand and during just going through the lines and talking about the characters and maybe things we hadn’t noticed and talking and developing a relationship, and also just getting to know each other as people, so it was that comfort level too, which I think helps a lot.

On set it didn’t feel ever like we were actually reading a scene, it just felt like we were talking and I was listening to him, and observing and reacting however Ally would, so that was pretty cool and doesn’t really happen a lot.

TeenHollywood: You mentioned paparazzi and barricades. You are an established actress with plenty of fans of your own but how does it feel to be suddenly thrust into the spotlight when your leading man is one of the most popular young male stars today?

Emilie: I don’t know, in general I’m just really just excited about this film and passionate about it, so I guess whatever comes with that is good. It’s nice to be promoting something that I genuinely love.

TeenHollywood: And the love scenes.....?

Emilie: Ah, yes. Me and Zeus

TeenHollywood: There had to be screaming, fainting female fans around.

Emilie: Really, fainting? So they have to have medics at the theatres now? That’s hilarious. As I was saying before, everything with us in every way was just very natural and calm, partially obviously to do with us getting along and we worked on things and just had a very good comfort level.

But, also our director Allen (Coulter) kept everything just so together and calm and you always felt comfortable. He did an amazing job on the film, but also just an amazing job interacting with people, and talking to people and letting everyone know what’s going on, and taking that time if you wanted to talk about a scene, nothing was like, ‘Oh, no time for that,’ There was always time.

TeenHollywood: Both you and Rob were dealing with the issue of violence in this film. Coming into the project, did you feel that the lasting impression this role has left on you (is violence)?

Emilie: Well, Ally's attitude is just really not being fearful of life and no matter what’s happened you can’t change the past. Not to forget the past, but not to live in the past. And I think she learns this even more through Tyler in that respect. I think she already had the attitude of living every day to its fullest and really appreciated life and she was stepping back and realizing and loving the people around her.

So I guess that’s left an impression on me. Life these days is so go-go-go-go-go, I think a lot of us forget to stop for a second and just appreciate the people around you, your loved ones, and just life.

Plenty of Twilight fans would kill to lock lips with their beloved Edward (Robert Pattinson) but Aussie actor Emilie de Ravin is the first to share a love scene with Pattinson in a new film.

The 28-year-old has spoken of her fondness for her co-star Pattinson, although she insists it was all work and no play when they were on the set of Remember Me.

"Robert's a great guy. We spent a lot of time getting to know each other and trying to understand our characters, who are quite complex," she says.

While the movie is a vehicle for Pattinson, many US critics claim the 28-year-old Melburnian outshines her high-profile co-star.

De Ravin insists she's no overnight success, after moving to Los Angeles a decade ago and successfully auditioning for the teen drama Roswell. Since then she's been in regular work and was married to actor Josh Janowicz (they separated six months later) but she still misses Australia.

"Los Angeles is a weird place. It took me a while to find my comfort zone," she says.

She doesn't hang out with the Aussie actors based in LA and spurns the city's renowned party circuit.

"I spend most of my time watching movies at home, eating nice food or just going for a hike. I explored the party scene a bit when I was younger but I don't know how people do it for years and years," de Ravin says.

Rob Pattinson's Remember Me Costar Kisses, Tells

Locking lips with Robert Pattinson was just another day at the office for Emilie de Ravin.

"He's a lovely guy," says De Ravin, who costars as Pattinson's love interest in the soon-to-be-released Remember Me. "Nothing felt unnatural or weird."

Luckily, Pattinson was someone the Aussie starlet liked...

"Sometimes those things are awkward, but we get along really well and we're friends," she said. "So everything in that respect then was much easier. It became just a part of the day."

Not so easy was shooting most of the romantic drama on location in New York City. Overzealous Pattinson fans and paparazzi seemed to be everywhere. "Crazy is the word," de Ravin remembered. "It's a little challenging sometimes. We were very accessible to people in Manhattan.

"It's fascinating, though," she continued with a laugh. "I didn't know there were so many women here…You're trying to work out your rehearsal and all these eyes just watching everything you're doing It's like, 'OK, I've just got to focus.'"

And not pay attention to tabloid speculation about their relationship. "I never understood that," de Ravin said. "I never did and I still don't...It's acting. I feel like people should kind of get that."

In Remember Me, Pattinson plays a rebellious son of a wealthy New Yorker who ends up falling in love with Ally (de Ravin), the daughter of a Queens policeman.

Be warned, this is a tearjerker.

De Ravin said, "If you don't cry, there's something wrong with you."

What was it like to work with co-star Robert Pattinson? Did you spend time getting to know each other before filming or during to create chemistry?
- Lauren Spratt

We had a really great time working together. Instead of just doing a scene and reading your lines, it felt like I was just reacting to him and the situation which made it feel very natural and un-forced. Probably the case because not only did we get along really well- we made a point of being on the same page as each other to do with our characters' relationship. Not reading over and over scenes, but more talking about them and our characters and finding moments one or both of us hadn't noticed before. I think really getting to know someone helps a lot with having believable chemistry on-screen.

Other than the Ally/Tyler relationship, which do you think is the best relationship in the film and why?
- Natalia Al

Ruby and Rob who play Caroline and Tyler-They had such a great chemistry together. Even though there's a big age difference between the characters they have such an adult relationship. Tyler could not be more caring and protective of Caroline and goes to great lengths to try and make her father understand and be there for her.

'The Twilight Saga' star Robert Pattinson gets romantic in his new movie 'Remember Me,' and he's talking to ET about his first impression of sexy co-star Emilie De Ravin!

"I was shooting the end of one of the 'Twilight' movies, 'New Moon,' in Italy and we were going through casting for ['Remember Me']," he explains. "The director said, 'I think I found this girl I think you'll find quite interesting,' and sent me this e-mail with her audition tape.

"My Internet connection was so slow that I could only get the beginning, which was her messing up for about 35 seconds," continues Robert. "She was really funny, you know, messing up and kind of quite charismatic -- but I didn't know that she was messing up at the time, I thought she was actually doing the scene and kind of just improvising with it and just making it up."

In theaters March 12, 'Remember Me' follows Robert as he struggles to win the attention and respect of his father (played by Pierce Brosnan) and falls headlong into a romantic affair with an extraordinary, eccentric girl, played by Emilie.

Congratulations on this film. It looks fantastic. So, what did you think first think about this love story?
Australian actress Emilie de Ravin has moved from the small screen to the big screen in the upcoming romantic drama Remember Me (out March 12).

In the movie, de Ravin (Claire on the TV smash hit Lost) plays Ally who becomes the object of affection of one brooding young man named Tyler, played by super hunk Robert Pattinson. Tyler has a strained relationship with his father a (Pierce Brosnan) due to a family tragedy and didn’t think anyone could pull him out of his funk until, he met Ally (Emilie de Ravin) through an unusual twist of fate. Love was the last thing on his mind, but as her spirit unexpectedly heals and inspires him, he begins to fall for her. Through their love, he begins to find happiness but soon, hidden secrets are revealed, and the circumstances that brought them together slowly threaten to tear them apart.

De Ravin recently spoke to Tribute’s Toni-Marie Ippolito to discuss filming Remember Me, how hard it was to concentrate with the paparazzi on set, what Robert Pattinson is really like to work with and, of course, her feelings on the final season of the hit series Lost, which made her a household name.

DE RAVIN: I fell in love as soon as I read it. It’s one of those few and far between scripts that you read that you’re like, “This is just something that I would just kill to be a part of.”

I understand there were about 180 women that were up for the part and then you got it! How does that feel for you as an actor?
DE RAVIN: It’s pretty amazing. Also, they were going in a lot of different directions with the look for Ally to start with and sort of ended up, I think, the furthest from where they started [Laughs]. I’m happy though.

What was your reaction when you found out that Pierce Brosnan, a.k.a James Bond, and Robert Pattinson were going to be a part of this film?
DE RAVIN: That was, you know, even better. We’ve got a really talented cast. Pierce is playing Rob’s dad. I’ve got Chris Cooper playing my father. Lena Olin is amazing and we’ve got a wonderful little 11-year-old girl, Ruby, who’s playing Rob’s sister who’s just a sweetheart and really talented. Everyone sort of ended up working together really well too, which is, you know, difficult—especially when you’re dealing with family units.

It looks like it’s a really intense, emotional story. Can you tell me a little bit about it?
DE RAVIN: The premise for the movie is really a romantic tragedy. My character and Rob’s character both have dealt with tragedy in our family and our past and we sort of meet unexpectedly, fall in love unexpectedly and then sort of the way the circumstances that we meet basically threaten to tear us apart. It’s really about just treasuring and appreciating every moment you have with loved ones and family because you can never go back.

What do you think it is about romantic tragedies that we just love so much? They’re heart wrenching!
DE RAVIN: They are heart wrenching! And for this film specifically I think it’s just the reality of this story that people can (relate to), whether they’ve been through something tragic in their life. It’s not dealt with in a fluffy movie way, which I think a lot of stories are. It’s really gritty, it’s very honest and you know, especially the relationship with Tyler and Ally. You can be, “Yeah, I’ve been like that in my relationship before. That’s kind of how it is.” None of that sort of perfect “first this and first that.” It’s all just down to earth and real.

It’s real life stuff. Tyler’s character’s got some stuff going on, but so does Ally with her dad. Could you relate at all to this character?
DE RAVIN: Yeah. I mean, not in a specific writing sense or not in a specific circumstance of what happened to Ally. But yeah, I think I always draw from life experience when it makes sense. So there’s always little things that you can find to incorporate, I think, from your life, whether it be the exact circumstance or something similar that maybe brought up a similar emotion in you.

While you were filming, there seemed to be a lot of paparazzi around because of Robert’s fame from Twilight. How did you guys deal with that?
DE RAVIN: Um, yeah, you know, it took a little getting used to. We really shot the majority of the film on location, you know, in and around Manhattan so there’s just people everywhere anyway. It got a little hectic at times!

It must have been a bit distracting.
DE RAVIN: The first day I was sort of like, “Oh my God. How am I going to focus?” And you know there were times that we were rehearsing and you can’t even sort of think about what you’re doing. You feel all these eyes on you and you become very suddenly self-conscious about what’s going on as opposed to being in your own little world of the character.

What’s it like working with Robert Pattinson?
DE RAVIN: He’s such a nice, genuine, great guy as a person. And you know that’s always nice when you’re working with someone you get along with. [He's] very giving. We sort of worked on stuff a lot together and we’d talk about things and really developed our characters together as much as we could. And that’s a real give and take thing if you’ve got one person not wanting to do that and one that does—it sort of creates a bit of conflict. But we were both sort of on the same page with everything, which was great.

Being on the same page, did that help with your chemistry? How do you know things would work out well with the both of you?
DE RAVIN: Yeah, well you know, I guess you don’t really a lot of the time, do you? I tested for this with Rob so I guess they see whether your interpretation of the character and his interpretation are going to go together. But then there’s also that you can change it up a bit too to make it work better or bring it back. It’s an interesting question because it is something that I think comes more from really just getting along with that person and liking that person as opposed to sort of someone who really annoys you.

Are there any memorable scenes that really stick out for you in this movie?
DE RAVIN: That I can talk about without giving away anything? [Laughs]. There’s a lot. I had a wonderful time. We had a lot of fun. There was one scene that I was really excited about doing with Chris (Cooper) who plays my Dad. We have a big fight and that was just such a sort of emotionally challenging, interesting theme because it was sort of one of those things that —we’re very evenly matched as our characters as father and daughter—it’s not sort of one undermines the other. So that was a lot of fun to play with. And, you know, Rob and I had a lot of fun playing together. We had a really fun sort of water fight scene.
