David Michôd Talks About Rob and 'The Rover' at Flickerfest

David Michôd was at Flickerfest this morning (Jan 17th) in Sydney and talked a bit about Rob and 'The Rover'.

@Roaford was there and here's a compilation of her tweets about what Michôd said about the movie.

They didn't talk about The Rover much but what David did say was it's finished. He completed it a month and a half ago, but the teaser isn't ready yet.

He cast Rob cause he could see the hunger and determination he has towards the career he ultimately wants.

David said Rob is one of the smartest guys he's worked with said he just a fun guy to be around.

In The Rover, Scoot and Rob's characters are from Texas so they'll both have Texan accents. David said Rob was worried about but said he nailed it.

David said he set out to make a more commercial movie after Animal Kingdom but it ended up being darker.

David said Rob and Guy are phenomenal in The Rover and it's the best work they've ever done.

David told us a story of how he saw Rob walking up the street by himself in Corn. Rob told David that it was the most magical experience to be able to do that.

ETA: A few more tweets

David is a very humble man doesn’t like to watch his own work he said he still gets embarrassed when he does. Wrote The Rover in 10 days back in 2007 but said it was “very thin”

David said Rob dose the very English thing of being self-deprecating and says he can’t do things, but has soon as he actually dose them he nails it.

Scoot and Rob would talk on the phone a lot about their roles and the accents because Rob was worried he couldn't do it.

David said for the first time with The Rover kids/young adults weren’t the focus or the main part of one his movies, but in a way Rob’s character Rey was essentially the child of the movie

  2. The last paragraph is a little sad if I have understood it correctly. I can sense the hunger and determination too. Hoping the very best for him.

  3. It's sad that he has to go to the middle of nowhere to walk by himself down a street.
