Rob's speech
It's been just a little over a week since a massive earthquake devastated the Caribbean Island of Haiti, leveling buildings and capturing countless citizens underneath the rubble.
While aid efforts for Haiti began shortly after the earthquake, tonight, some of Hollywood's biggest stars got together to bring further awareness to the cause. Amonst them was "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson, who stressed the importance of technology during this crisis.
Robert, who appeared on camera from London, shared the story of a girl in Haiti who had been buried under a flattened university for nearly six days, praying that someone would find her. Finally, on the sixth day, rescuers discovered her because of a text message sent from underneath the rubble.
Amazing.
The story was just one example of how technology, including Twitter, Facebook and texting, has shaped the response to the earthquake in Haiti.
Here is his speech in full:
"Underneath a flattened university, Maxine Fallon waited. She was crouched in a fetal position and could barely move. In the darkness and during the hectic sounds of the day, through the pain, the hunger and thrist, she prayed that someone would find her. And on the sixth day her prayers were answered, she was found because of a text message from the rubble sent rescuers to her side. Unlike any other event in history, our world has been connected to this tragedy because of technology. Twitter updates, Facebook pages with pictures of the missing and text messages for help. This technology is working right now to connect us, too. At hopeforhaitinow.org, you can donate and you can instantly interact with people in Haiti and anywhere in the globe. Join with those watching and see what they're saying about something we all care deeply about — helping the Haitian people get back on their feet. Please go to hopeforhaitinow.org. Thank you."

This is such a wonderful cause, The Haitian people really, truely need our love and prayers, and donations to help them rebuild their lives. This really did not hit me until here lately, but now its on my heart to help in any way I can, you can got to hopeforhaitinow.org and give as much as you can, it doesn't have to be big, anything helps. These people are in need and it is up to us to help them.
oh my god.. he is so beautiful ..always...
Is there anything we don't criticize anymore.
its not about looks he donated his time and money to help people that need our help right now. he didnt give a speech to be critized for what he looks like. my gosh ppl i think our energy needs to be focused on helping people instead of putting people down or like i said critizing. this is why people have self esteem issues because of comments like that
Thanks so much for posting that YouTube link - I missed his segment on the broadcast.
And thanks for maintaining such a great site! I check it nearly every day and you always have great stuff.
You are so right cassie. People can't appreciate what is done for others. What does it matter what he looks like as long as he helps? He probably had a very long day and was crazy tired, but at least he cared enough to be there. And that's what this was about, helping Haiti, not how good or bad Rob looks with a beard. I guess it shows just how caring you are for the cause since that is the first thing you commented on. But hey, if it helps you sleep at night to care more about his beard then more power to you.
I think he looks hot in the beard and I'm not even a beard kinda gal. I love that he is doing this. He must be a major player for them to ask him. Look at the other actors involved...
great that he is doing this kind of stuff for haiti, i dont care how he looks he´s helping people and that´s what matters to me...
Bless his heart and all those in London for giving of their time to make folks aware and providing additional incentive for folks to call in and help. I don't think Rob could ever really have a bad day appearance wise, but as someone pointed out, if had been a long day for them. I am in central time, London is 8 hours ahead making it 4am in Lomdon when Rob and the others were on the air. Again bless them all for lending their star power to the cause and to those who gave ao selflessly. Also on another note, I have read rumor of a large sum that Rob supposedly gave, big deal, I am sure he didn't give any dollar amount that he expected to be broadcasted. It is nice that he gave regarless if it was one or a million dollars. I am a Rob fan, he looked food, sounded good, and I thought overall the entire show was good and put together well in a very short time. Don't come on here and hate on the beard or anything else. Keep it positive and spread the love.
If I were his girl I would have wanted to be there showing my support for this cause along with him. Love the beard!
great job rob. god bless him . i love this guy!
I love Rob,been live at 4am,what a wonderful human been,he's awesome!! God bless him.
I think it's very nice that he also want to help! It's very terrible what happend in Haiti!
Rob is a beautiful human no matter what the degree of facial hair he chooses to sport. "Beauty is as beauty does." This telethon wasn't about Rob. It was in support of those suffering in Haiti. His appearance was very appropriate to the cause. I am once again very proud to call myself one of his greatest fans. Love and respect to you, Rob!
I've seen some really hateful comments posted elsewhere (these are mild) regarding Rob. To criticize someone who dropped everything to participate in a cause to help others who have gone through such tragedy is absolutely appalling. Perhaps they should find something better to do with their time.
I think it's not the beard that makes him look different. He doesn't smile anymore or even sound like Rob. He just looks dead tired and sad...
he's growing the beard for his next film. dumb ass.
